The purpose of a film opening is to set an impact on the audience. it should be interesting and persuasive in order to keep the audience hooked to the film. The opening scene provides the audience with a good deal the background information,the genre,whatever is happening in the movie and the characters in some cases as well.

The opening scene is meant to decide the audience for you,to create a good impression of your film. From the opening scene, one can analyse what the story might be and what kind of film it is whether action\romance\comedy. The opening scene is meant to create a certain impact of the audience,perhaps to shock them,keep them hooked,curious so they intend on watching the whole film. The opening shot sets the tone of your entire film!!

The first 15-30 seconds of a film are the most important and the most crucial. Starting off with a dull or mediocre shot may be giving ur audience an opportunity to give up so it is important to set the mood early and place the audience in awe from the get-go.
